Everyone is doing this, so I figured I’d jump on the bandwagon and follow suit. Well, actually, I’ve always found it incredibly beneficial to put the past-year in review when the next one rolls around, so I’m doing it again. This time, I’m reflecting on the best (and hardest) moments of 2016 that helped me to transform and get me to where I stand today, with 2017 before me. Here are the notable things and travels of 2016:
I made my first travel video: Even though I’m still learning the ins and outs of video production and editing, I feel like a pro compared to where I started at the beginning of 2016 when I made my first travel video in Antigua.
I failed at one business: I tried at a business in fashion, and failed.
I succeeded at another: But somehow the stars aligned and my freelance/contract social media gig grew into a company of itself, which is now growing and flourishing like I never could have imagined.
I met “the one”: Yep, it’s true. When you know, you just know. I met him out of the blue, serendipitously, and in less than 2 weeks from today, we’re moving in together! The right things happen suddenly and progress quickly; my best advice is to let them.
I went back to Budapest: I spent 3 months solo in Budapest in 2014, and I’ve been dying to get back ever since. I got to visit over this past summer for about 10 days; it was magical.
I visited Santorini: Of course, Santorini was high up there on my bucket list since I could understand the concept of travel. As romantic as can be, I got to visit the magical island with my partner. It did not disappoint!
I got my first paid travel gig: A dream of mine that I never really expected to come through, 2016 brought me my first paid travel gig as a blogger, which means I not only got the opportunity to travel, I actually benefited financially from doing so. Major woot!
I went for my first enjoyable jog: I’d always wanted to be able to go for a run on the seawall and actually enjoy it. Over this year, I got into such a great physical routine (5-7/week) that I was finally able to manage this. I woke up a few mornings in the summer at 530am and ran from English Bay to Third Beach and back. It was exhilarating!
I visited Montreal and Chicago: I planned an East Coast blogging trip in May, during which I got to visit Montreal and Chicago for the first. Oh the poutine, oh the architecture!
I went to New York City, again, again: After my additional visits over 2016 with my girlfriends, I can now say I’m in the double-digits with my love affair with NYC.
So far 2017 has brought me many wonderful things. I can sense my world starting to take shape; I can sense organization, clarity, and certainty before me, which are a wonderful bundle of things I’ve yet to experience in this weird and often messy thing we call life.
